CEO of The Mead Trust and National Leader of Education
My name is Lyssy Bolton. I am CEO of The Mead Academy Trust and ama National Leader of Education, supporting system leadership locally, regionally and nationally. I serve on the Regional School Improvement Partnership Board and the Ofsted Early Years Consultative Forum, as well as being a member of Wiltshire’s Education Design and Transformation task force group.
I have worked in a range of schools and have been a Headteacher since 1997. My philosophy about education is quite simple; children only get one chance to experience childhood and they have an absolute right to the highest quality education.
I was privileged to open The Mead Community Primary School in 2001, establishing an outstanding school from first principles. The Mead has been particularly recognised for its work in English, Early Years and Inclusion. In our role as a National Support School, The Mead took on Wingfield as a failing school in 2009 and supported its rapid transformation to an outstanding provision by 2011. The Mead at Wingfield continues to be a wonderful small village school site, which reaps many benefits by operating as part of a larger organisation.
The Trust became an Academy Sponsor in 2014 and subsequently opened Castle Mead School, a new provision primary school with nursery in Trowbridge, and took on the running of River Mead School and nursery in Melksham.
The journey to securing outstanding leadership and learning across all of our schools is exciting. It is a genuine shared endeavour. Our talented and experienced team is working together highly effectively across sites, and drawing on each other’s strengths to shape inspirational learning for all of our children.
We are an organisation characterised by optimism, excellence and creativity. We love to share good practice and to continue to learn and challenge each other.
As a Teaching School, we work in partnership with CSL (Collaborative Schools Ltd) and wider partnerships to offer peer to peer support, professional development, leadership development and Initial Teacher Training. Research and development are at the heart of our work, and we encourage and expect our practitioners to be research engaged and to draw on evidence-based practice.
