Role overview
We have a rare vacancy for a School Cook to run the kitchen at The Mead Primary School in Hilperton. The ideal candidate will be someone who has previous experience of leading and managing a kitchen and has the ability to use their own initiative and problem solve to create delicious, nutritious meals for the children at The Mead Primary School in Hilperton and Wingfield.

The School Cook will:
• Plan and prepare delicious lunches each day for the children at both the school’s Hilperton and Wingfield sites, and for children staying at school for After School Club each day
• Cook and serve school meals
• Be responsible for the day to day management of dining arrangements, ensuring a safe and friendly environment
• Plan the termly menus in line with school food safety standards and budget
• Order supplies, as required
• Maintain the kitchen and serving area to a high standard of cleanliness
• Supervise the Assistant School Cook
• Ensure the health and safety of the kitchens is maintained, following routines and monitoring food hygiene and food safety to ensure high standards are achieved
• Supervise the preparation of the hall for dining, including setting up tables and clearing away afterwards
• Clean and sanitise all work areas as well as washing up

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Experience of cooking in either a school or other professional environment, with a good knowledge and skills in catering work
• The ability to work flexibly and be a real team player
• An energetic and friendly personality
• To be adaptable, flexible, and reliable
• Qualified to at least Level 2 in Food Hygiene (although Level 3 is desirable)
• An understanding of Health & Safety requirements and food hygiene
• A formal qualification in catering
• To be happy to work in a team, as well as being able to use your own initiative
• To have a First Aid qualification, or willing to undertake training
