Role overview
We have a vacancy at The Mead Primary School in Hilperton for a Grounds and Maintenance General Assistant. This role is critical to the smooth running of the site, and will involve:
• Undertaking routine maintenance and refurbishment of the school premises, fixtures and fittings
• Acting as a joint key holder for the school, ensuring security at all times, including the operation of the alarms
• Opening buildings and preparing rooms for lettings or school events
• Collecting and disposing of all rubbish and ensuring the school buildings and grounds are free of litter and graffiti
• In winter especially, ensuring that access roads, pavements, steps and playgrounds are safe to use at all times
• Maintaining the security of the grounds maintenance machinery, tools equipment and stock, including carrying out basic maintenance of equipment and liaising with school management on major problems
• Undertaking efficient operation of the heating system, ensuring it’s in good working order
• Ensuring adequate stocks of tools, equipment and materials necessary for the upkeep of the school premises and reporting requirements for additional stocks to school management
• Maintaining school grounds including sweeping, weeding and trimming hedges
• Cleaning when necessary, including window cleaning, scrubbing / hosing down paved areas, and cleaning walls
• Assisting with occasional gardening duties
• Emptying external bins and disposing of rubbish

As this is a key holder position, with responsibility for such important areas of the school, you will need to be a conscientious person who takes the role seriously. You will also need to be:
