39 weeks, 28.5 hours as Teaching Assistant plus 2.5 hours as MDSA

Salary:

Grade D £18,526 – Grade E £19,171 (pro rata) depending on qualifications and experience               

Role overview:

River Mead School is a single form entry primary school based in Melksham. The school has a nursery and a Resource Base providing specialist support for children with a range of complex needs. River Mead School offers an exceptional learning environment, with hall, library, music, art room, group rooms, nurture provisions and all teaching spaces are equipped with interactive whiteboards. The reception, nursery and complex needs Resource Base classes all have access to enclosed outdoor play areas that can be used all year round; in addition, we have a variety of outdoor play areas including a ‘multi-use games court’. We also have chickens, guinea pigs and opportunities for growing food as part of our school environment.

For the successful candidate, this exciting role offers the opportunity to be part of a high functioning team.

We are seeking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant to work within the Resource base at River Mead School.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a track record of shaping practice around the following principles;

  • Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
  • Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
  • Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences to their individual needs respond
  • There is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers
  • Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates

We are seeking applicants who are/have:

  • Passionate about improving learning opportunities for children with complex needs, within a creative curriculum – preferably Teaching Assistants with SEN knowledge, although not essential
  • Willing to undertake roles including intimate care and feeding
  • Have experience of working within a team with strong early years pedagogy
  • Has knowledge of, or is willing to learn about supporting children with complex needs including ASD
  • A strong motivation to support children with additional and complex needs
  • Flexible, with a strong commitment to teamwork
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with a good sense of humour
  • Committed to ongoing professional development

Ideally the successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of, or interest in, working with children with complex needs and within a specialist learning environment
  • NVQ or any other relevant qualification
  • We would welcome applications from graduates
